Russia is an educational power

95% of adults in Russia have higher education. The country has a fairly high level of university education and the level of research and technical bases. If we consider the issue on a global scale, then Russia has an advantage in such areas as electronic technology, aircraft equipment, shipbuilding and the chemical industry. Among the many public universities there are a sufficient number of institutions that are known throughout the world.

The Russian system of higher education has a century-old history, excellent traditions and international recognition. Education in Russia is much more accessible than in the US or the UK. Moreover, foreign students have the opportunity to study for free at the expense of the state budget. Every year Russia welcomes students from all over the world, from almost 170 countries, and you can join them.

Strong teaching staff

Russian universities have high requirements for the education and professional qualities of teachers. Usually they all have a doctorate degree, are candidates of sciences or members of the academy of sciences. Therefore, the teachers are very strong and have a high theoretical background and rich managerial experience. Teachers have a strong sense of responsibility. In Russia, the language is taught by professionals who, in the process of learning, immerse students in the local environment and create excellent conditions for learning the language.

The structure of Russian education

In the Russian Federation, higher professional education (HPE) is part of a system that ensures the right of citizens of the country to lifelong learning. With the accession of Russia in 2003 to the Bologna process, HPE is divided into three levels corresponding to European standards:

  1. Undergraduate (academic and applied).
  2. Master’s degree (and a specialty specific to Russia).
  3. Doctoral studies, postgraduate studies – training of highly qualified personnel.

A bachelor’s degree provides general theoretical training and a set of competencies (simply, skills and abilities) for performing certain professional functions in the studied area without narrow specialization. The study lasts 4 years, education is considered a full-fledged higher education.
The specialty also belongs to the second level, but the training takes at least 5 years and focuses on narrow-profile practical work in the chosen direction.
The master’s program provides for the acquisition of a more extensive set of theoretical knowledge and involves the preparation of students for research activities. You need to study for at least two years. Graduates-masters, as well as specialists, can continue their education at the third level – in graduate school.
Training of highly qualified personnel (doctoral studies, postgraduate studies) is a training that includes four interrelated parts:

  • education itself, that is, the accumulation of theoretical professional baggage;
  • pedagogical activity – teaching;
  • practice during which the material for the Ph.D. thesis is collected;
  • research work.

Postgraduate studies train specialists focused on creativity and academic fundamentality, in a word, scientists. Full-time study lasts at least three years, part-time – from four to five.
